This course is an introduction to the basic concepts and skills in the practice of pastoral care and counseling grounded in the Christian tradition of cura animarum, the care (or cure) of souls. The course will be divided into three major parts: first, it will attend to the Christian task, ecclesiastical history, formation of the pastoral carer. Second, an exploration of the counseling process, including workshop and laboratory approaches on empathetic listening, including other helping skills and techniques will be undertaken. Third, it will deal with potential problems that can be encountered in the pastoral context.
